Our Story
MuniCollab grew out of first-hand experience. While serving on municipal boards and committees in New York’s Hudson Valley, our founder Lou Klepner saw dedicated staff and volunteers lose hours to paper packets, email chains and spreadsheets. MuniCollab was built to give them something better: one place where applicants, staff, board members, consultants and the public all work from the same information.
We started with land-use review, building tools for planning boards, zoning boards and historic review. In 2026 we expanded the platform to building departments, bringing permits and inspections into the same system.
Today municipalities across New York rely on MuniCollab, from the City of Yonkers, the state’s third-largest city, to the City of Kingston, the City of Hudson, and towns and villages across the state.
Our Founder
Lou Klepner, Founder & CEO
Lou Klepner is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of MuniCollab. He is a member of the Ulster County Planning Board, and also serves on the Ulster County Traffic Safety Board and the Saugerties Transportation Advisory Committee. For the past 25 years Lou has worked as a software application architect, designing and developing applications across a variety of sectors. Before MuniCollab he was the co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of Bright Parenting, a venture-backed startup which was acquired by Maven Clinic in 2020. Prior to that he served as a Distinguished Engineer with Charter Networks.
